Garapa

Garapa is a South American decking product very similar to Ipé, but at a fraction of the cost.

It’s a truly durable and strong hardwood, with a very high fire resistance rating. Due to its natural resistance to fungal decay and insect attack, Garapa requires no additional treatment. The grain is usually fine and straight, with some wavy characteristics on certain pieces.

Garapa boasts a rich honey colour that will naturally weather to a pleasant driftwood (silver-grey) colour if left untreated. Some clients prefer the original colour and achieve this by treating the wood at least once annually. As timber decking is a natural product, the colour varies between pieces and the age of the timber also has an effect on its appearance.

Garapa has a life expectancy of around 50 – 70 years and has thus become a very popular choice in the hotel and commercial industry. Garapa is definitely a favourite in decking timbers.
