Pine

This timber is locally manufactured in Knysna, South Africa.

Pine is non-durable and liable to insect damage. With care, this timber seasons with little degrade. Pine is ideal for preservation treatment and is more durable when treated at a treatment plant. It can be treated H1 up to H6. H6 Pine can even be used under water.

The texture of Pine is relatively uniform. Resin ducts can appear as fine, brown lines on longitudinal surfaces. Nail holding is good, gluing is satisfactory and the surfaces provide a satisfactory finish.

Pine is mostly used as substructure for decks when treated to H3. Pine is one of the most popular woods for decking, as it is very cost-effective, but it lacks the durability of other hardwoods, like Garapa and Balau. Pine is also used for flooring and general construction.
